Insomnia is a sleep disorder where a person has a hard time staying asleep or falling asleep. Some people may fall asleep easily but will wake up too soon. Because of this, people who are suffering from insomnia will not get enough rest they need to wake up refreshed and energized for the day ahead. It can affect people of all ages, both men and women.
Insomnia is brought about by various causes such as excessive intake of coffee or any caffeinated drink, psychological or mental stress, hormones, or other chronic illness. If left untreated, it can lead to obesity, depression, anxiety, poor performance at work or school, and even poor immune system. That’s why it is important for you to seek treatment. Here are few natural ways to cure your insomnia.
First thing that you can do is to stick to a regular sleep schedule. Try your best to go to bed at a specific time in the evening and get up at a planned time in the morning. This way, your body will get accustomed to a habit and will know when it’s time to rest. Avoid oversleeping or “under sleeping” too so as not to confuse your body clock.
Minimize your consumption of coffee, tea, or any other food and drinks that contain caffeine. Some people cannot metabolize caffeine as efficiently as others and if you are one of those, then you might have more difficulty in sleeping. Keep your diet to a healthy and balanced food intake, that way, you never get too much of something that might not be good for your body as a whole. Being healthy also means that you avoid drinking alcohol. Believe it or not, this is not good because although it can make you fall asleep easily, the alcohol prevents your body to go into a deep sleep, which is what we need to feel refreshed and energized in the morning. Eating right will also help you lose excess weight that can reduce the risk of sleep apnea, which is a possible cause of insomnia.
You may have heard this everywhere else, but regular exercise will help you get enough sleep aside from making your body healthy as a whole. Half an hour’s worth of exercise everyday can greatly improve your sleep. Try jogging, cycling or even walking your dog around your block as a form of exercise. I strongly suggest that you exercise in the morning because exercising at night might make you too energized to sleep when it’s time to go to bed.
Some doctors would recommend for you to take medication or pills and have you undergo therapy, especially if your insomnia have been bothering you for months already. Lost sleep cannot be regained back and it can have long-term effects on your health and hinder you from enjoying life. That’s why it’s important to seek treatment right away and modify your lifestyle to help improve your condition. There are these natural cures that you can take to alleviate your suffering from insomnia.
